Ko Aoraki te maunga te rū nei taku ngākau. Ko Opihi te awa. Ko Zealandia toku waka. Ko Pākehā toku iwi.
Ko Tina McTear ahau.

I have been working therapeutically with young people and families for over twenty years, starting at Christchurch Hospital. I moved to London and worked in the areas of refugee support, child protection and three years in adult mental health - crisis assessment and intervention. Back in New Zealand (and for a while in Melbourne) I worked in several Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, providing psychiatric assessment and intervention. In Christchurch I worked at the STOP Children’s Programme as a Child Therapist and the Adolescent Programme as a Family Therapist. I have worked as a School Counsellor for young people in Intermediate and High School.

Alongside this work I have been employed as a Clinical Lecturer in Family Therapy for the University of Otago and provided training in Family Therapy through Canterbury Family Therapy Associates. I have been supervising students and professionals for the past fifteen years.

The clients and families I see are from all backgrounds and cultures. LGBTQI+ friendly.

Kea Family Services was established in 2020 in response to the increased need in Canterbury following the earthquakes, fire, the March 2019 shootings, and the global pandemic. These are all shared experiences and yet we often deal with the impact on our own. Kea Family Services helps people understand the context of problems, access their internal and external resources, strengthen their relationships, and improve mental wellbeing. Families have the opportunity to face the effects of difficulties together, build resilience, create preferred ways of relating and plan a way forward.
